Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your California State Senator, 11th District. As I look back at the first three years of my term and gear up for reelection, I know I have you to thank.

Because of your support, I was able to pass legislation to:

• Increase school funding for the kids in our low wealth school districts;
• Protect California’s precious coast from off-shore dumping;
• Get low-cost and no-cost drugs to people of modest means;
• Protect older Californians from would-be scammers and swindlers;
• Provide greater transparency in local school funding decisions;
• Increase the use of renewable energy to 20% by 2010;
• Prohibit the purchase and sale of your personal phone records;
• Bring real accountability to our educational decision-making;
• Reverse global warming; and last, but not least,
• Pass my “hands free” cell phone bill, saving untold lives in the years to come.

And while I’ve worked hard to be effective, I’ve also worked hard to be the kind of representative I think you want me to be: independent, forward thinking, fiscally responsible and committed to social justice; in touch with and accessible to the people in my district.

As I reach the end of my first term, I am gratified by the continued support you have given me, and hope that I can count on you once again in my campaign for re-election to the California State Senate.
