Blog As you are well aware, our state is facing unprecedented challenges in the coming months.
During these difficult times, it’s more important than ever for elected officials to listen to the people they represent. To make that possible, I’m holding extra “sidewalk office hours” this year to make sure you can share your ideas and concerns. The full schedule is below.
For those who haven’t attended in the past, my sidewalk office hours take place at local farmers’ markets throughout the district. No appointment is needed, so you can just stop by and chat.
I look forward to seeing you throughout the coming months.

Joe on the Job
State Sen. Joe Simitian is taking his town hall meetings to the World Wide Web with the Senate's first-ever live streaming town hall meeting from the state capitol.
The senator from the 11th district, which includes Campbell, is inviting his constituents to participate in the online discussion on May 13 from 7 to 8 p.m. Topics for "E-Upd@te With State Sen. Joe Simitian" may be submitted prior to the meeting through the senator's website.
Joining Simitian will be Jack O'Connell, state superintendent of public instruction, who will be a guest for the portion of the event dedicated to education questions.
Simitian, who routinely attends the Campbell farmers market for his "sidewalk office hours," said he prefers to meet with his constituents in a face-to-face discussion, and using an online platform is an interactive way to do that.
"With a district sprawling over three counties, it makes sense for me to use every tool available to make my office accessible," Simitian said in a news release. "This Web-based town hall will give folks an opportunity to get their questions answered from the comfort of their own homes."

Joe on the Job Winners of state Sen. Joe Simitian’s 2009 “There Oughta Be A Law” contest traveled to Sacramento this week to testify on the merits of their proposed legislation. Soquel resident Liz Levy was one of them.
Levy won Simitian’s contest for her idea to clarify the state’s “parking cash out” program, where commuters qualify for subsidies to use alternative transportation. Senate Bill 425, inspired by Levy, tightens enforcement of the program and provides tax credits to businesses who support public transit.
“Parking cash out can significantly reduce solo commuting, freeing up roadways and reducing air pollution,“ said Levy during Tuesday’s testimony, according to Simitian’s office. The bill now moves forward in the legislative process.
